Face Driving Applications: Dispelling the “Limited
Application” Myths |
 |
|
In the past, many have labeled the applications of face
driving to be limited in the size and type of part being
machined…but it’s not just for long and straight cylindrical
shaft turning, these days. If you have an application that
needs to be turned completely from one end to the other
without the “flip it/recheck it” process, Neidlein face
drivers can help you increase overall cycle time and eliminate
the “out of tolerance” results often found when rechucking the
part.
Our Neidlein Product Manager Brandon Morris has recently
written an article on the subject (currently printed in the
September issue of Modern Machine Shop magazine). This article
dispels many of the face driving myths/limitations:
- part size limitations…shaft diameters, part
weight/lengths, etc.
- acceptance of heavy cuts
- the ability to perform interrupted cuts
- the wide range of accepted applications…not just
cylindrical shaft turning—consider hard turning, grinding,
gear hobbing and even milling
The article also provides a few rules to apply to face
driving applications, as well as descriptions of the face
driver product features/components. To read the full story,
